Clients who are still running the original version of the Penweb Database application, before it was named Self Control™ and without the Control Panel, should contact me if you want to upgrade. The Control Panel allows you to make all changes to your database(s) from a single web page and integrates database rules into the data entry and modification pages. It simplifies and speeds maintaining your database.
The change here is behind the scenes where you can't see it. In previous versions I wrote individual code modules for each function of your database application. For example, one module would list your products and a second one would display the individual products. In Version 1.1 a single program performs all output functions for each database. The advantage here for you is that it would be much easier for another web developer to understand how the application works should you decide to use someone else. It also operates faster and has better security for your data. Please contact me if you want to upgrade. You already have this version if your application was created after 1/1/02.
Version of Self-Control™ generates code that is completely XHTML compliant. This allows the output to be accessed by Palm, Pocket PC and cell phone devices through a native parser. While this may not mean much to you now it will in the future as wireless data access becomes a necessary part of doing business. All new applications are developed to this specification.
This may not be a necessary upgrade for most of you, but if you want to prepare your site for wireless access and future browser versions that require this spec, please contact me. If your application was created after 5/15/02 it already is Version 2.0.
Version 2.1 of Self-Control™ adds error checking to prevent some of the most common data entry problems. It also adds a floating file upload utility to the Add and Modify pages with remote control navigation functions. You have this version if your application was developed after 1/1/03. Please contact me if you want to upgrade to this version.
Version 2.2 of Self-Control™ has an optional change for real estate and other clients, as it now includes report generation. You can generate private or public reports customized to your needs using the same data file you have now. You have this version if your application was developed after 1/1/05, and it was requested. Please contact me if you want to upgrade to this version.
